Both Fyre Lake and State of Illinois regulations are enforced at Fyre Lake.  State of Illinois regulations now require that all watercraft operated on the waters within the jurisdiction of this state shall be registered.     Small boats, canoes, etc., are no longer exempt.     Boats used on private lakes owned by an Association (such as ours) are not exempt.    If you have small rowboats, canoes, paddleboats – they all must be registered with the State of Illinois now.

• Only boats owned by Fyre Lake Association members are allowed on any of the lakes, and each boat must display two current Fyre Lake decals, one on each side.

• Any person operating a boat on any of the lakes must be a Fyre Lake Association member, be accompanied by a member, or be in possession of a valid temporary guest permit.

• Outboard powered boats are allowed on Fyre Lake only.    No inboards or inboard/outboard motors allowed.

• 90 horsepower maximum motor size and speed limit of 35mph will be enforced.

• Houseboats, airboats, hovercraft, jet skis, jet boats, racing or high-speed boats are not allowed.     Boats deemed unsafe will not be allowed on any of the lakes.

• Rowboats, canoes, sailboats, rubber rafts, wind surf boards are allowed on all three lakes with current Fyre Lake decals.     Electric motors are allowed on all three lakes.

• All boats must carry a Coast Guard approved life preserver for every person on board.

• No person may operate a watercraft under 26 feet in length unless a Type I, Type II, Type III, or Type V personal flotation device is being properly worn by each person under the age of 13 on board the watercraft at all times in which the watercraft is underway.

• Any vessel towing people on water skis, tubes, aquaplanes or similar devices must be operated by a legal operator, have a capacity of at least 3 persons, and be occupied by at least 2 competent persons (Driver and spotter.)    Competent meaning capable of assisting skiers, tubers, etc., in case of injury or accident.

• Illinois law requires that any operator of a motor boat, at least 12 and less than 18 years of age, shall have taken the Illinois Boating Safety Course and possess a Boating Safety Certificate, unless that youthful operator is accompanied by and under the direct control of a parent or guardian or a person at least 18 years of age designated by the parent or guardian.

• Water skiing, tubing, and similar boating activities are allowed from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. or sundown, whichever comes first.

• Skiing, tubing, etc. must be done in a counterclockwise direction only.

• Every skier, tuber, etc., being towed must be wearing a life preserver.

• Boats pulling skiers, tubers, etc. must be operated at least 50 feet away from any shoreline.

• Swimming, if done from boats, must be done only when the boat is anchored.     No swimming allowed in the ski areas.     This includes swimming across the lake or well out from shore into the ski areas.

• All areas designated by buoys, as well as all inlets or bays which are not posted, are no wake areas.     Wave action is detrimental to our shorelines.    Unnecessary wave action should be avoided.

• Fyre Lake Association members are held responsible for violations of these regulations by family members or guests.    Any reckless boating practices may result in revocation of Fyre Lake boating privileges.

• Any power driven and sailing vessel less than 20 meters in length shall carry and display running lights (red lights to port, green lights to starboard, and white light above the forward lights) between the hours of sunset and sunrise.     Fishing boats must display an anchor light.

Fyre Lake offers us all a unique opportunity for boating, fishing, swimming and water skiing right here at home.     Any boating, swimming or water skiing accident has the potential for serious or even fatal consequences.
